Informal STEM Education Fellowship Directory

Students gather around a laptop, smiling and laughing

Welcome back to our Insights! We’ve been building various tools and resources for the informal STEM education (ISE) community (remember our A.I. Tools for ISE Evaluation?).

Over the past month, we’ve developed a list of fellowships that have previously been featured in the newsletter, along with several others that we felt represented great possibilities for those in the ISE community. Check them out on this compiled Informal STEM Education Fellowship Directory

Our goal when putting this list together was to provide an easily accessible, centralized place for folks in our field to see what fellowships are available to them. We’ve intentionally aimed to represent a wide variety of opportunities that span the range of fields and levels of expertise. You will see lots of postgraduate fellowships on this list, but also a number that would be great for graduate students, nonprofit employees, museum staff, and others.

Two opportunities we are really excited about are: The ASTC New Leaders Fellowship Program is a 9-month program emphasizing leadership development, and is specifically for science center and museum professionals from historically underrepresented backgrounds, including those who identify with ethnic minority groups, as LGBTQ+, or those with physical or intellectual disabilities and differences. For those who are civics-minded, the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship pairs scientists and engineers with policy-makers in Washington D.C. for yearlong assignments to learn first-hand about the federal policymaking process.

I know when I was first starting out in ISE, a resource like this would have been incredibly helpful. The ISE field is niche, and finding opportunities for our community can be a struggle, especially for folks new to the space. We hope this directory allows you to see the wide range of opportunities available to ISE folks, and if you end up applying to something let us know! We’d love to hear if this resource helped you.

We will continue to add to this list as we run across special fellowship opportunities, but we also want to hear from you! If you know of a fellowship that you would like to share, please send your suggestions to hello@improvedinsights.com

We’re currently working to build a library of resources for the ISE community, including our ISE Fellowship Directory and A.I. Tools for ISE Evaluation. Stay tuned for the unveiling of this exciting new hub…coming soon!
